Until 2006, Cricket had only exhibited two kinds of cricketing formats i.e. ODIs and Test Cricket. ODI used to be called limited-overs cricket.

Fifteen years later, there are numerous formats of limited-overs cricket that continue to excite the fans. One of the biggest reasons for the excitement among cricket fans is the T20 format.

Fans come in huge numbers to see their favourite players take wickets and score quick runs to create an exciting atmosphere within the ground.

Since its initiation in 2008, IPL has had a huge role to play in the evolution of T20 cricket. Even 13 years after its commencement, it still continues to find ways to improve on its previous editions. Last year, the IPL event was conducted in UAE, citing the coronavirus restrictions in India.

Homecoming

Last year, the event was played in UAE because of the COVID-19 pandemic. This year, after a little bit of consideration, the Indian government and BCCI announced that the 14th IPL event will return to India.

After a year of absence from the Indian soil, BCCI will be making huge efforts to accommodate all the fans and ensure that they enjoy the cricket matches.

No concept of Home or Away

Even though the 14th event returned to the Indian soil, there will be no concept of home or away matches like in previous IPL editions. Due to the rise in cases, BCCI wants to conduct the tournament in two to five cities.

No home matches for Mumbai Indians

As we saw a huge leap of coronavirus cases in Maharashtra, it has deprived the Mumbai Indian fans to see their team playing their home matches. As there was not be any action in the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai Indians will play their matches outside Maharashtra.

No full stadiums

Last year in UAE, the entirety of the event was played behind closed doors. In this event, there will be certain stadiums in which crowds will be allowed to enter in half capacity.

Kings XI Punjab renamed

For the first time in IPL’s history, Priety Zinta’s Kings XI Punjab will not be in the IPL event. Instead, the franchise will be named Punjab Kings.

Most expensive player

As Chris Morris went to Rajashtan Royals for 16.25 crore, he set the record for becoming the most expensive IPL player in history.

The South African all-rounder overtook legendary Indian all-rounder, Yuvraj Singh’s price tag as the most expensive player in the edition.
