IPL: Nice to be back to winning ways, says Kane Williamson after SRH hammer RR
The captain of the Sunrisers Hyderabad , Kane Williamson, said that it was nice to return to victory after 5 consecutive defeats in the IPL 2021, and urged the young players to take advantage of the opportunity and enjoy the game during the tournament.
SRH debutant Jason Roy and skipper Williamson struck fine half-centuries to help Hyderabad record a comfortable seven-wicket win over Rajasthan Royals as IPL Play-offs calculations got a bit more complicated.
Opting to bat, the Royals rode on a well-paced 82-run knock by skipper Sanju Samson to score 164 for six on a sticky wicket where stroke-making was difficult. However, the score proved insufficient as Roy (60 off 42) and Williamson (51*) led the team to their only second win of the season.
“Good feeling. We can say the performance was improved. There was clarity in roles too and it’s nice to be back to winning ways. Good to be on the right side. Want to build on this, want to see the younger players take their opportunity and enjoy the cricket,” Williamson said in the post-match presentation ceremony.
“Last two overs with the ball were critical. Sanju batted outstanding and they were looking to score more but we managed to close them into a par-ish total. And then the partnership with the bat up top. We weathered the storms against the slower bowlers. Roy is an injection of energy,” Williamson added.
Williamson heaped rich praise on SRH debutant Jason Roy, who was playing in place of the out-of-form David Warner in this match, calling the English opener a fantastic player. Williamson said Roy proved to be the much-needed injection of energy for SRH.
“He’s been on the sidelines but was always ready to go. He did what he does, great to see. Fantastic player, great contribution. We want to recover before the next game. Couple of days away, new venue, need to take on CSK, top of the table, tough to beat. But as we know every team in this tournament is good. Hopefully we can play with a smile on our faces,” Williamson further said.
