CPL: St Kitts and Nevis Patriots win maiden title after beat St Lucia Kings by 3 wickets

An unbeaten 24-ball with 23-year-old Dominic Drakes helped the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots beat the St. Lucia Kings by three goals in the 2021 Caribbean Premier League (CPL) final.

The Patriots thus won their maiden CPL title while this is a second consecutive defeat in the finals for St Lucia.

St Lucia set the Patriots a target of 160 to chase. The Patriots, with a batting lineup featuring Chris Gayle, Dwayne Bravo and Evin Lewis, seemed to have lost their way in the chase when they were reduced to 95/5 in the 14th over.

However, Drakes then produced an audacious display of death-over batting. The Patriots needed 55 to win off the last six overs and Drakes’ innings, coupled with knocks from Sherfane Rutherford (25 off 22) and Fabian Allen (20 off 18), brought the equation down to nine needed off the last over, which was bowled by Kesrick Williams.
