Virat Kohli completes 1000 runs in England before getting out on 44

India captain Virat Kohli on Sunday became the third batsman from the country to complete 1000 test runs in England during the first session of the 4th day of the fourth test at the Oval.

Kohli reached the landmark with a cover drive for four against Craig Overton to join Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid in an elite Indian list. Kohli is only the third Indian now to score more than 1000 Test runs in Australia and England after Tendulkar and Dravid.

Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar had amassed 1809 and 1575 runs in Australia and England respectively while Dravid managed 1143 and 1376 in both countries. Kohli has 1352 runs so far in Australia and breached the 1000-run mark in England after moving to 44 in the 109th over of India’s second innings.

Overall, Kohli has over 1000 Test runs against Australia (1682), England (1960), South Africa (1075) and Sri Lanka (1004).

But the skipper couldn’t add any more to his score and got out to Moeen Ali in the 111th over with India in a spot of bother at 312 for 6. The visitors were ahead of the hosts by 213 runs at the time of Kohli’s dismissal.

India made a poor start on Sunday after a good batting day on Saturday, losing 3 wickets in the first session. Kohli was the last batsman to depart just before the lunch break after Ajinkya Rahane (0) and Ravindra Jadeja (17).

Chris Woakes broke the 59-run fourth-wicket stand between Kohli and Jadeja by trapping the latter LBW in the 102nd over before sending back the vice-captain 2 overs later.
