Virat Kohli leads a training session as India gear up for Headingley Test vs England

Cricketers from India have returned to the training ground preparing for the 3rd test against England at Headingley in Leeds on Wednesday, August 25.

Virat Kohli was spotted leading the training session on Sunday as the star players geared up for the upcoming challenge.

KL Rahul, who hit a hundred in India’s win over England at Lord’s earlier this month, was looking focussed on the training session. Kohli himself was padded up as he hit the nets for some valuable batting practice in the lead up to the 3rd Test.

Notably, off-spinner R Ashwin rolled his arm over at the nets at Headingley on Sunday. He was joined by the likes of Ushant Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja while Rishabh Pant was working on his glovework.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared photos from India’s first training session ahead of the 3rd Test. Notably, the players arrived in Leeds on Sunday and wasted no time in getting back to the field.

“Turning the heat on at Headingley,” read the BCCI’s caption for the series of images.

India scripted a remarkable comeback in the Lord’s Test as they went from a spot of bother to a position of strength in span of one session. Heading into Day 5 in London, India’s hopes for a competitive total was pinned on Rishabh Pant who was the last recognized batsman at the crease. However, India lost Pant early only to see Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Sami step up with the bat. The duo added 89 runs for the 9th wicket as India stretched their lead to 271.

India returned to the field with their pacers breathing fire. Mohammed Siraj picked up four wickets as India managed to bundle out England for 120 and seal a 151-run win.

Despite the 1-0 lead, India will be looking to work on a few things that have not gone their way so far. While openers KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma have been in imperious form, captain Virat Kohl, vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara will be hoping to come up with their best in Leeds. While Rahane came up with a crucial fifty in the 2nd innings in Lord’s, the likes of Kohl and Pujara are yet to make a big score in the series.
