Women’s Tour of India in Australia: Meg Lanning will lead 18-member squad

Australia has announced the creation of an 18-person playing group for its multi-format series against women from India, which will begin on September 19.

India and Australia will play 3 ODIs in Melbourne and Sydney before playing a historic day-night Test in Perth. The two teams will also be involved in 3 T20Is in Sydney after the one-off Test.

Meg Lanning has been named the captain of the 18-member squad which also has senior players of the likes of Ellyse Perry, Alyssa Healy and Rachel Haynes. However, Australia women will be without their senior fast bowler Megan Schutt who, along with Belinda Vakarewa, requested not to be considered for selection due to personal reasons.

Australia have picked a fine mix of youth and experience. 19-year-old Stella Campbell finds a place in the squad, while 27-year-old wicketkeeper Georgia Redmayne, off the back of strong domestic seasons both home and abroad, has been picked.

Australia’s fast-bowling stocks are boosted by the return of Maitlan Brown following a lengthy stint on the sidelines through injury.

Australia squad for India series: Meg Lanning (Captain), Rachael Haynes (Vice-Captain), Darcie Brown, Maitlan Brown, Stella Campbell, Nicola Carey, Hannah Darlington, Ashleigh Gardner, Alyssa Healy, Tahlia McGrath, Sophie Molineux, Beth Mooney, Ellyse Perry, Georgia Redmayne, Molly Strano, Annabel Sutherland, Tayla Vlaeminck, Georgia Wareham.
