IPL 2021: Franchise members, families could face disciplinary action for violating the bio-bubble

BCCI has released health and safety protocols for Phase 2 of IPL 2021. According to the report, disciplinary measures can also be taken against the families of players for violating biobubble.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) action is set to return to UAE next month for the 3rd time in the history of the league. While the BCCI had conducted the first 20 matches of IPL 2014 there due to General Elections in India, UAE hosted the complete season of IPL 2020 due to the COVID-19 situation in India.

Since the BCCI had successfully hosted England in a full-fledged series, the board brought the league back to the country this year. But IPL 2021 had to be suspended after 29 matches due to the second wave as the virus breached the BCCI’s bio-bubble.

The BCCI decided to move back the league to UAE and the three venues there will be hosting the remainder of 31 matches. The players are gearing up for the season and all the teams are expected to reach UAE by the end of the month.

Almost 40 days before the tournament, the BCCI released healthy and safety protocols, the PTI reported. As per the report, disciplinary action can be taken against franchise members and their families for breaching the bio-bubble.

“Breach of any Bio-Secure Environment protocols by franchise members or their families will be subject to disciplinary action by the BCCI,” the BCCI said, as per PTI.

Since the first phase of the season had to be suspended due to COVID-19 in different camps, the BCCI is expected to follow strict measures this time.

The report in PTI adds that international players will not be serving quarantine. Anyone seeking re-entry into the bio-bubble will have to serve 6 days in isolation.
