Chakhal returned home after recovering from COVID-19; thanks fans for their wishes

Indian Yuzvendra Chahal tweeted that he returned home from Sri Lanka after recovering from COVID-19. Chahal was one of the players who had a positive result during the series.

The India-Sri Lanka white-ball series was hit COVID-19 after 3 Indian players tested positive for the infection. Krunal Pandya, who looked set to play the 2nd T20I, was the first player to test positive for the infection. Following his positive case, Krunal’s close contacts were isolated and missed the remainder of the two T20Is.

Out of the 8 isolated players, Yuzvendra Chahal and Krishnappa Gowtham tested positive for the infection, which delayed their arrival in India as the COVID-19 positive players had to serve the isolation period and test negative for the infection.

After Krunal, Chahal has also returned home. The leg-spinner took to Twitter to announce the news and to thank his fans for their wishes. “Feels good to be negative with a positive attitude #home thank you for all your wishes,” he wrote on Twitter.

Chahal played a key role in India’s win in the opening T20I. The remaining T20Is were crucial for Chahal as he isn’t confirmed selection in playing XI in T20Is. During the 2020/21 season, the team management dropped him twice, and Rahul Chahar’s heroics could see him sit out again.

Though he is confirmed selection in the T20 World Cup squad, Chahal will face competition for a place in the final XI.

Talking of other players who had a delayed departure from Sri Lanka, Krunal Pandya has returned home. There’s no update on Krishnappa Gowtham. The 32-year-old last tweeted on August 4 and wrote that he is on his way to recovery. “Be not afraid of going slowly , Be afraid of standing still . Way to recovery one day at a time .Thnk u all for the love and care,#stayingstrong,” Gowtham wrote.

India were without the services of their first-choice players for the 2nd and 3rd T20I and handed debuts to 5 players. Sri Lanka dominated the proceedings in the absence of India’s first-choice players and won the last two matches to win their first-ever T20I series against India.
