James Anderson dismisses Virat Kohli for 1st time since 2014

1st Test: James Anderson won the first round of his long-awaited battle with Virat Kohli when the England star managed to dismiss the Indian captain for a golden duck on the second day of the first test in Nottingham.

Kohli walked in to bat after Anderson dismissed India’s No.3 Cheteshwar Pujara cheaply in the 41st over of India’s innings. Kohli arrived at the crease, eyeing a big knock but Anderson had other plans. The star England pacer provoked Kohli to fiddle with the ball outside the off-stump, forcing the India captain to hand a simple catch to Jos Buttler.

Notably, this is the first time since 2014 that James Anderson has managed to get the prized scalp of Virat Kohli in Test cricket. The Anderson vs Kohli rivalry has begun in 2021 and the English pacer has taken the first round. It will be interesting to see how the India captain reacts in the next few innings on the English tour.

When India toured England in 2014, Anderson was Kohli’s nemesis with the right-arm pacer dismissing the India skipper on four occasions. Kohli could score just 134 runs in his 10 innings. But Kohli came back to England an altogether different batsman in 2018 as he finished the Test series as the top run-scorer with an impressive 593-run tally with two centuries and three fifties to his name.
