Next stop, England: Suryakumar Yadav and Prithvi Shaw leave for Nottingham after completing isolation

India players Suryakumar Yadav and Prithvi Shaw have travelled to Nottingham to join the test squad ahead of the five-match series against England, which begins on August 4 at Trent Bridge.

Both Suryakumar and Prithvi were quarantining in Colombo with 7 other India players from their limited-overs squad which recently took on Sri Lanka in a T20I series.

Surya, Prithvi, Manish Pandey, Hardik Pandya, Ishan Kishan, Krishnappa Gowtham, Yuzvendra Chahal and Deepak Chahar were the 8 close contacts of Krunal Pandya, who tested positive for coronavirus late last month and missed the final two T20Is as a result.

The rest of the Indian limited-overs squad returned home on July 30 while the 9 players stayed back to complete their quarantine period in Colombo. Surya and Shaw will go to Nottingham while the rest of the players will return home to their respective states in India.

Surya took to social media to inform his fans about his departure from Colombo along with Shaw. “Counting my blessings. Next stop, England!” Surya tweeted along with his picture before boarding the aircraft.

Surya and Shaw were asked to join the Indian Test squad in England after the Sri Lanka tour and will be available for selection from the third Test after completing their 10-day isolation period in the United Kingdom.

Surya and Shaw were named as replacements following injuries to Shubman Gill, Washington Sundar and Avesh Khan in the build-up to the Test series.

India suffered another injury blow on Monday when opener Mayank Agarwal suffered a concussion during a net session and was subsequently ruled out of the series opener at Trent Bridge.

Mayank Agarwal, who has so far played 14 Tests for India, showed signs of concussion after getting hit on the helmet in the nets.

Agarwal was assessed by the BCCI medical team and a concussion test was conducted. He is stable and will remain under close medical observation.
