West Indies’ difficulty with spin has left them staring at a possible second home series loss. First, it was South African Tabraiz Shamsi whose spin created all sorts of problems for the Caribbean batsmen. And now it’s the Pakistani spinners who troubled the home team.
Asking Pakistan to bat first, West Indies did well to pull back the Pakistani innings after skipper Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan partnership had placed the visitors at 113 for the loss of just one wicket with still more than five overs left. Jason Holder and Dwayne Bravo showed their experience in the death overs as Pakistan could manage only 40 runs in the last five overs despite having eight wickets in the hand. In response, West Indies got off to a slow start losing two wickets in the power play itself. Chris Gayle and Shimron Hetmyer never got their innings going as both of them were dismissed with their strike rate less than 100. Wicket-keeper Nicolas Pooran led a late surge as he smashed Pakistani bowlers all over the park scoring 62 not out from just 33 balls. However, it proved too little too late as West Indies fell short by 7 runs. Mohammad Hafeez was declared man of the match for his outstanding spell of giving just six runs from his four overs.
