India vs Sri Lanka: Dhawan turns back to teammates, thigh-fives to celebrate 1st toss win

Shikhar Dhawan won his first toss as India’s captain on Friday and celebrated the moment with a high-five as he turned to his teammates.

In the 3rd and final ODI versus Sri Lanka at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, the southpaw called it right this time in front of the match referee Ranjan Madugalle and expressed his delight in an animated fashion.

Dhawan lost the toss in the previous 2 instances but managed to win both the matches as India took an unassailable 2-0 lead.

The third match against hosts Sri Lanka is a dead rubber and the visitors have utilised the opportunity to give chance to 5 debutants.

Nitish Rana, Rahul Chahar, Chetan Sakariya, K Gowtham and Sanju Samson are the 5 lucky players, while Navdeep Saini has replaced the star of the previous match Deepak Chahar in the playing XI. India also persisted with the opening combination of captain Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw as Devdutt Padikkal and Ruturaj Gaikwad’s wait for India debut continued.

It is the first instance since 1980 that India have played 5 debutants in a single ODI.

India will also play 3 T20Is starting July 25.
