Bopanna reports details of call with AITA official Anil Dhupar on Tokyo Olympics qualification
Indian tennis star Rohan Bopanna has hit back at the Secretary General of the All India Tennis Association, Anil Dhuparu, by sharing details of his audio call with an AITA official, where they can be heard discussing Olympic qualification.
Bopanna tweeted the audio conversation as Dhupar’s name appeared as the contact saved in his phone. Bopanna further urged AITA to stop lying that players are at fault for the controversy.
In the tweet, Rohan Bopanna wrote, “Good morningAITA Secretary General blatantly lying saying ITF accepted the entry. Stop LYING to everyone and it’s time for a change. It’s been 50+ years all players have suffered thanks to the federation incompetence.”
After Rohan and Sania criticized the AITA for making a mess of Tokyo entries, AITA had blamed them for not knowing the rules and speaking out wrongly. AITA said ITF had never accepted the entry of Rohan and Sumit. However, in this audio call released by Bopanna, Anil Dhupar the AITA general secretary can be heard saying ITF had accepted the Tennis star’s entry.
“Hello Anil sir, how are you doing?,” asked Bopanna.
“Bas theek hai, I am waiting for tomorrow. Keep your fingers crossed, maybe we get some good news tomorrow,” Dhupar replied.
‘I saw Berrettini has pulled out sir..,” asked Bopanna.
“Who?” Dhupar asked back.
He then went onto say, ” I am saying that I am expecting some good news tomorrow, be ready, that’s all.”
“Sumit and my entry is fourth as of now?,” asked Bopanna.
“It is in fourth”, replied Anil Dhupar. He further went onto say, “Sumit and yourself because your and Divij is out of the question.”
Rohan Bopanna then asked, “ITF has accepted that?
Anil Dhupar replied, “that they have accepted the nomination.”
