PV Sindhu flaunts Olympic nail rings while preparing for the Tokyo Games

A year after it was postponed, the Olympic Games in Tokyo are scheduled to begin on July 23. Despite the voices of opposition in the city of Tokyo in connection with the Covid-19 pandemic, the multi-sports event continues, and athletes are preparing for a significant sporting spectacle.

India’s star shuttler and biggest medal hope, PV Sindhu has given her preparations for the Tokyo Olympics an artistic touch. The reigning world champion shared a photo of her nail art on social media.

Sindhu has painted an Olympic ring on her nails in the lead up to the Games. In the photo, the Olympic ring can be seen completed on her middle finger and ring finger.

“Olympic Fever,” Sindhu has written as caption, also mentioning the 10-day countdown for the Games. The photo has gone viral on social media.

Sindhu is one of the key contenders for the Olympic medal in women’s singles badminton. The 26-year-old shot to fame by winning a silver medal at the Rio Games in 2016 and she is bidding to become only the 2nd athlete after wrestler Sushil Kumar to win multiple singles medals at the Games.

Sindhu has been seeded 6th in the women’s singles badminton and has been drawn in Group J for the Tokyo Olympics.

Sindhu will face Hong Kong’s world number 34 Cheung Ngan Yi and Israel’s Ksenia Polikarpova, ranked 58th in the group stage.

She is likely to face World No. 12 Mia Blichfeldt (who has been drawn in Group I) in the Round of 16. In singles, a player has to win the group of 3 to progress to the last 16.

Players have been divided into 14 groups and the Group A and P winners (groups with top 2 seeds) will receive byes in Round of 16.
