MS Dhoni is the “Maharaja” of the Chennai Super-Kings, never leaving the franchise, says Brad Hogg

Former Australian spinner Brad Hogg believes veteran wicketkeeper-batsman Ms Dhoni is the “Maharaja” of his Indian Premier League (IPL) team Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and will never leave the franchise.

“MS Dhoni is not leaving @ChennaiIPL He is the Maharaja of the franchise. He will transition into a coaching role. #IPL,” Hogg said in a tweet that he put up in reply to a fan’s question about which team would buy Dhoni if CSK don’t retain him in next year’s Mega Auction.

Dhoni’s CSK were on an upward trajectory when the 2021 IPL got postponed halfway through the league stage due to the Covid-19 pandemic. They were second in the league standings with five wins in seven matches and a net run rate of +1.263, which was by far the best in the competition.

CSK failed to make it to the playoffs for the first time in IPL history in 2020 but seemed to have turned their fortunes around in 2021.

The IPL is now expected to restart in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in September-October.

Dhoni has been CSK’s captain since the first IPL season in 2008. He has led the team to three titles and were runners-up five more times in the league.
