He didn’t make anyone feel insecure: Aakash Chopra explained why the players thrived under Dhoni’s leadership

Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra opined that the legendary cricketer Ms. Dhoni did not make anyone feel insecure about the Indian team under his iconic captaincy. Known for his analysis of the game of cricket after retirement, Chopra explained why Dhoni was definitely a special class when it comes to leading the Indian national team on the international stage during his legendary captaincy, which lasted almost a decade.

Recalling Dhoni’s accomplishment and contributions to the Indian cricket team, Chopra opened up about the successful stint of the former Team India skipper. One of the most successful captains in the history of the gentlemen’s game, Dhoni is the only captain to have won all ICC trophies. Chopra also observed that Dhoni played the same XI during the business end of the ICC competitions.

“Dhoni’s class has been that under him the team has flourished. The few things I see that make Dhoni the best captain in the world is that he doesn’t make changes. He didn’t make anyone feel insecure in the team,” Chopra said in a video shared by the former cricketer on his YouTube channel.

“If you see his team from the league stage to the knockouts, the team and the protagonists have remained the same. He has always got players who make runs in the big encounters. When you reach the quarterfinals, semi-finals or a final, the team that makes the least mistakes wins, the team that panics the least and the team which consistently plays the same XI so that all players are secure in the end,” Chopra added.

Chopra’s remarks have come after Virat Kohli-led Team India lost the ICC World Test Championship final at the hands of Kane Williamson’s New Zealand last week. Even though Kohli has successfully filled in Dhoni’s shoes as the captain of the Indian side, the talismanic batsman has failed to end India’s trophy drought in ICC events.

Kohli shattered Dhoni’s record of most Tests as captain of Team India although the Indian skipper failed to retain the elusive Test mace in the inaugural edition of the Test Championship.
