DC lose Qualifier 1 vs CSK: We are going to rectify our mistakes, says Rishabh Pant

Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant was dejected by his team’s 4-wicket loss to Chennai Super Kings in qualifying Match 1 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 on Sunday. DC failed to defend 173 in Dubai to lose their first match against CSKA in more than a year.

MS Dhoni played a typical finisher’s knock after Ruturaj Gaikwad and Robin Uthappa’s crucial half-centuries as CSK chase down the target with 2 balls to spare to enter their 9th IPL final. For DC, Tom Curran took three wickets while Anrich Nortje and Avesh Khan got one each

Delhi meanwhile, still have another shot at reaching the IPL 2021 final as a reward for finishing on top of the league stage. Pant’s team will take on the winner of the second qualifier between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders in the Eliminator on October 13.

Pant was at a loss for words when asked to describe the feeling of losing a close match against Dhoni’s CSK.

“Obviously it’s very disappointing, don’t have enough words to describe how we are feeling right now. The only thing we can do is rectify our mistakes and move on to the next one.

“I thought the score was decent but they got off to a flier in the powerplay and we didn’t get enough wickets and that was the main difference.

“As a cricketer, we are going to rectify our mistakes, gonna learn from it and move on to the next one. Hopefully we can win and play the final,” Pant said.

Earlier, Prithvi Shaw top-scored with a 34-ball 60, while captain Rishabh Pant and Shimron Hetmyer contributed 51 not out and 37 respectively after DC scored 172 for 5 after being invited to bat.

Josh Hazlewood was the pick of CSK bowlers with figures of 2/29 while Ravindra Jadeja, Dwayne Bravo and Moeen Ali took a wicket apiece.
