IPL: Umran Malik’s extra pace a boost to any bowling attack, says teammate Jason Holder

Fast bowler Umran Malik is a boost to any bowling attack thanks to the blistering pace he is able to generate, said 21-year-old SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) teammate Jason Holder.

Umran has been turning heads with his pace this season, even bowling the fastest delivery of this season at 153kph.

“The first thing to mention is his pace, that is his biggest asset. He has been consistent in training and he has been giving us a hard time in training. He is very hard to get hold of, he has been deceiving the batters through his pace and that extra pace adds a boost to any bowling attack,” said Holder during a virtual post-match press conference.

Umran dismissed KS Bharat as SRH stunned RCB to manage just their third win of the season. Holder said that while bowlers who generate that pace can be erratic, Umran shows a lot of control as well.

“It is good to see his control as well, a lot of guys who have bowled quick over the years, generally they can be erratic but he has been pretty consistent,” he added.

Holder himself was integral to SRH’s win, scoring 16 off 13 balls towards the end of the innings and then bowling the penultimate over of the match in which he gave away just five runs and took a wicket.

“Well I just try to prepare well. Funny enough I did not practice on Tuesday, I tend to watch the footage and see patterns on where I can set the field when I bowl. I think batting is just about the situation, the partnership I formed, in the end, was crucial,” he said.
