Punjab Kings bowling coach hails Mohammed Shami and Arshdeep Singh’s death bowling

The Punjab Kings boosted their chances of reaching the 2021 Indian Premier League (IPL) play-offs on Friday with a five-wicket victory over the Calcutta Knights as an effective bowling death and a smart strike by skipper KL Rahul and Shahrukh Khan shaped their decisive victory in Dubai on Friday.

Punjab Kings bowling coach Damien Wright showered praise for Mohammed Shami and Arshdeep Singh’s death bowling as the duo only conceded 14 runs in the last over, which switched the momentum towards KL Rahul’s team as Kolkata were looking set to set up 180+ runs total.

Arshdeep returned with 3 for 32, while Mohameed Shami bagged 1 wicket but gave away just 23 runs from his 4 overs quota.

“It is purely down to how they train and apply themselves. It has been area of our game which we have been strong at. Arshdeep and Shami’s last two overs were the difference in the game. They both work really hard and it is paying off,” said Damien Wright at the post-match press conference.

“Ravi Bishnoi is a superstar, he is going to be very special player in the coming years. He will certainly be playing all the games for us. He has been a huge inclusion into our squad,” he added.

Punjab Kings bowling coach also praised captain KL Rahul’s knock, who scored 67 runs off 55 balls and shared a 70-run stand with fellow opener Mayank Agarwal (40), knocking off a 166-run target with three balls to spare.

“I thought Rahul innings was superb. Rahul played an anchor role for us, we would have love to see him be there at the end but I thought his innings against KKR was super. He was so composed, he is just able to continue to play on not feel pressure and this is why he is such a class player,” said Wright.

Punjab Kings will be up against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Sunday at Sharjah.
