The series “England” will not be broadcast in Pakistan, can not do business with any Indian company: information and Broadcasting Minister Fawad said

Six matches with white balls of the team of Barbara Azam will not be broadcast in Pakistan, the country’s Minister of Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry said on Tuesday. Chaudhry said that Indian companies have the right to broadcast matches in South Asia.

Pakistan’s Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Fawad Chaudhry, has said that six white-ball matches of Babar Azam’s side during the England tour will not be telecast in the country as Indian companies are holding broadcast rights in South Asia.

Fawad Chaudhry added that business with Indian companies will be conducted only after the Government of India revokes the decision taken on August 5, 2019. Notably, India on the aforementioned date had revoked the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and passed legislation to split it into two Union Territories.

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, the minister said Pakistan Television Corporation’s (PTV) request for a contract with Indian broadcasters Star and Asia, who have the rights to air the matches, was rejected.

“Indian companies hold the rights to broadcast [matches] in South Asia …. and we cannot conduct business with any Indian company,” he said.

The information minister said Pakistan would approach the England Cricket Board to try and arrive at another solution.

“Normalisation of ties with India is subject to it taking back the August 5 decision,” he said.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and PTV will indeed face considerable losses as a result of this, the information minister added.

Pakistan are slated to play their first ODI versus England on July 8 in Cardiff. The 3-match T20I series will begin from July 16 in Nottingham.
